Tour guides want a guaranteed minimum daily wage of MOP1,200 (US$150) to offset a decline in the sales commission they earn from pushing tourists through shops, our sister publication Business Daily reports.

Macau Tourist Guide Association president Angelina Wu Wai Fong said the earnings of half of the city’s 600 full-time tour guides were hit during the National Day Golden Week.

Beijing banned travel agencies from arranging forced shopping tours to designated venues on October 1.

Guides leading shopping tours rely on tips and commissions to supplement their earnings, Ms Wu said. Other guides are usually paid a salary.
