VIP gaming shrinking disproportionately in Macau

VIP gamblers all over the world are betting less than before, but the contraction of the market is greater in Macau than elsewhere, Morgan Stanley says.

A report by the investment bank says measures to curb money laundering, and greater reluctance by junket operators and casinos to lend money to gamblers are reducing VIP betting globally.

But Macau’s VIP gaming business is especially constricted by the campaign against corruption in the mainland, regulatory pressure and slow improvement of the necessary infrastructure, the report says.

It says junket operators are taking high-rollers to places other than Macau because they get better commissions elsewhere in Asia and the Pacific.
