Macau’s casino VIP gross gaming revenue went up by 9.8 percent in the first quarter of 2013 in comparison with one year before, official data shows.

Figures released yesterday by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau show that the city’s casinos reported MOP57.8 billion (US$7.2 billion) in VIP gross gaming revenue between January and March.

In the previous quarter, VIP revenue had expanded by just 2.9 percent year-on-year.

Despite this, VIP revenue continued to lose market share to mass gaming revenue (including slot-machines), but only at a marginal rate. During the first quarter of 2013, VIP gaming revenue accounted for 67.79 percent of Macau’s overall gaming revenue, slightly down from 67.84 percent in the previous quarter.

Mass gaming revenue growth slowed down. It went up by 27.0 percent year-on-year between January and March, a decrease of 1.4 percentage points over the previous three months, reaching MOP27.5 billion.

In the first quarter, Macau’s casinos reported gross gaming revenue of MOP85.3 billion, up by 14.8 percent.
