Unemployment steady in three months ended April

The unemployment rate was steady at 1.7 per cent in the three months ended April 30, the Statistics and Census Service says.

The rate has been 1.7 per cent since the three months ended February 28, 2014.

The underemployment rate was also steady, at 0.3 per cent.

The labour force numbered 405,800 and the labour force participation rate was 74 per cent.

More people were employed in construction and hotels in the latest trimester than in the three months ended March 31, while fewer were employed in restaurants.
