Unemployment rate remains at 1.9 pct

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has revealed that the unemployment rate in Macau within the three-month period throughout June – August remained at 1.9 percent, the same level as the previous three months. However, the number of jobseekers looking for a first job has slightly increased; by 3.4 percent. According to DSEC, the increase is related to the number of graduates that have recently entered the job market.  7,200 were unemployed during the period in question, representing an increase of 200 individuals compared to the previous three months. The percentage of unemployed people looking for their first job amounted to 13.6 percent, having increased by 3.4 percent as new graduates entered the job market. The total labor force reached 369,000 people, an increase of 2,300 individuals when compared to the previous period. Regarding types of economic activities, the construction sector registered a work force increase of 3.5 percent, reaching around 35,000 people. Compared to the same period in 2012, the activity rate increased by 0.5 percent, whereas the unemployment and sub-employment rates decreased by 0.1 and 0.2 percent respectively.
