The University of Macau (UM) kicked off its Career and Internship Fair 2014 yesterday, which will last until March 14. The fair attracted 65 companies and organizations offering over 2,300 jobs to graduating UM students as well as internship opportunities to second and third-year students. During the fair UM will also hold 30 recruitment talks.
Elvo Sou, head of the Student Counseling and Development Section of the Student Affairs Office, said in a press release that in addition to providing various employment and internship opportunities, the fair also teaches the students how to make career choices and provides an opportunity for them to improve their interview skills, learn more about the job market, and showcase their talents.
According to UM’s latest employment and further studies survey, among UM bachelor’s degree graduates for the 2012/2013 academic year, the three most popular industries were education, entertainment and gaming, followed by banking and finance, as well as hospitality with the employment rate reaching 82 per cent and the median monthly income being MOP 13,000. 12 percent of last year’s UM graduates chose to pursue further studies.
This year’s fair includes three parts: career workshops organized by the Student Affairs Office, on-site interviews with exhibiting companies and organizations, as well as 30 recruitment talks.
