Tourist arrivals grew 8 pct last month to 2.5 mln

Tourist arrivals to Macau grew to 2.5 million last month, 8 percent more than a year earlier.

Official data show mainland tourist numbers were up by 15 percent compared to a year earlier, swollen by Lunar New Year holidaymakers.

About half of all mainland tourists travelled on an individual visa.

The city also had more visitors from Taiwan and South Korea. The number from Hong Kong fell by 3 percent and the number from Japan fell by 4 percent.
