Think-tank says Macau economy world’s 34th-freest

The Heritage Foundation’s latest Index of Economic Freedom ranks Macau’s economy as the 34th-freest in the world.

The think-tank now gives the city an economic freedom score of 70.3 points, 1.0 point less than a year ago.

The report that goes with the index says the drop is due to less labour freedom and monetary freedom, offset in part by improvements in management of government spending and fiscal freedom.

In the past five years Macau’s score has fallen by nearly 3.0 points as labour and monetary freedom have diminished, according to the Heritage Foundation.
