THE BUZZ: Macau tourist price index increases by nearly 7 pct

The Tourist Price Index for the third quarter of 2013 increased by 6.89% year-on-year to 128.84, according to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The upsurge was attributable to higher hotel room rates and charges for restaurants. Other price indexes with steep increases included accommodation (+10.03%), clothing and footwear (+9.67) and food, alcohol and tobacco (+8.98%) due to rising room rates and dearer prices of handbags and local foodstuffs.
By contrast, the price index for miscellaneous goods saw a decrease of 3.1% year-
on-year.
