The Association of Macao New Vision has conducted a survey regarding local residents’ expectations of the Policy Address 2014, which will take place on November 12. It found that what people want the most from the address is a solution to housing problems. This is the third consecutive year the survey has recorded housing problems as the most important concern.
The Association randomly selected more than 5,000 phone numbers and successfully interviewed 510 adults. According to the results, 69 percent of the interviewees are most concerned with policies concerning social and livelihood issues. Around 23 percent of the respondents were primarily concerned with economic development, while 4 percent thought that policies concerning the political and legal aspects were the most important.
The policies that most of the interviewees would like to see included in the policy address are the expediting of public housing projects, housing market regulations and the extension of the medical voucher system.
Interviewees were least satisfied with the house market regulations, the construction of public housing and accountability of public officials. However, they reported higher levels of satisfaction in regards to health care, employment protection, education reform, cultural conservation, regional cooperation and economic diversification.
