STATISTICS: Increase in new registered capital in 1Q14

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has released the company statistics for the first quarter of this year. Figures show that 1,126 new companies were incorporated in this period, 138 more than the same period a year ago. The total value of new registered capital has reached MOP191 million, rising by 23.7 percent.
Among the new companies, the majority (423) of them are in the wholesale and retail sector. 237 were in the business service sector.
In terms of the size of registered capital, 67 percent of the new companies have registered with capital under MOP50,000, while 44 of them registered with capital of MOP1 million or above.
The majority of the new companies’ capital, MOP118 million, was from Macau. About MOP53 million came from the mainland, and MOP26 million came from the nine Provinces of the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region.
Moreover, 715 of the new companies were solely owned by Macau shareholders. 165 were joint ventures between shareholders from Macau and other countries or regions.
At the end of the first quarter of this year, there were a total of 44,724 registered companies, 4,077 more than the same period in 2013.
