Smoking switch shrinks mass market, research finds

More casinos are turning mass-market gaming tables into VIP gaming tables so that the gamblers playing at them can smoke, Union Gaming Research says.

A note by the research house says: “More operators opted to reclassify mass-market tables to VIP in October, likely owing to the golden week.”

The note says this may account for some of the contraction last month in gross gaming revenue from the mass market.

The law allows smoking in VIP gaming rooms but bans smoking on mass-market gaming floors.
