September visitor numbers rose 7.9 pct

The number of visitors entering Macau in September has risen to more than 2.33 million, a 7.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year. A little more than 50 percent of the visitors are same day visitors, according to the figures released by the Statistics and Census Service. The number of visitors from mainland China in September reached 1.5 million, a 19.6 percent increase year-on-year. The majority of them (585,027) were from Guangdong Province. 589,667 mainland visitors travelled to Macau through the Individual Visit Scheme.
523,105 Hong Kong residents visited Macau in September, putting our neighboring city as the second largest origin of visitors after the mainland despite a fall of 10.1 percent. The amount of visitors from Japan also recorded a 27.7 percent decrease.
The country with the highest growth of visitors was South Korea, with a 15.9 percent rise to 37,776. Visitors from the United Kingdom also increased by 3.6 percent. However, the numbers of visitors from the United States, Australia and Canada have all dropped, with the amount of Canadian visitors decreasing by up to 14 percent. There was no change in visitors’ average length of stay compared to last year, which remained at one day. The average stays of overnight and same-day visitors are 1.9 and 0.2 days respectively. Macau received more than 7.76 million visitors in the third quarter, an increase of 6.6 percent. To the end of 3Q13, the number of visitors entering Macau grew 5 percent year-on-year to 21.9 million.
