Civil Aviation Authority president Simon Chan Weng Hong thinks Macau airport has no need for a second runway.

“The passenger capacity of the present single runway can be increased to 1.5 million in the future. So we believe that building a second runway is unnecessary,” Mr Chan says in a written reply to an enquiry by Legislative Assembly member Si Ka Lon.

Mr Si had asserted that the present runway’s roughly north-south alignment made the airport’s operations vulnerable to inclement weather, so hampering Macau’s efforts to bring in tourists.
