Research house sees no imminent gaming recovery

Union Gaming Research Macau thinks recovery in the city’s gaming market is a distant prospect.

A note by the research house predicts that the slowing of growth in the mainland economy and deterrents to Chinese high-rollers going on gambling junkets will continue to hamper any rebound in the number of visitors to Macau and the amount they spend.

“Given the economic challenges facing China today, it would seem unlikely that customers will start spending more per visit in Macau,” the note says.

Gaming Research forecasts an annual contraction of 3 per cent in Macau’s gross gaming revenue next year.
