Q3 visitor spending rises 12 pct to MOP14.8 bln

Spending by visitors on everything except gambling amounted to MOP14.8 billion (US$1.85 billion) in the third quarter of this year, 12 percent more than a year earlier, official data show.

Each visitor spent MOP1,905 on average, 5 percent more than a year earlier.

The average overnight visitor spent MOP3,179, 3 percent more, and the average day-tripper spent MOP650, 18 percent more.

They spent 48 percent of their money on shopping, 25 percent on accommodation and 20 percent on food and drink.

About 89 percent of visitors were satisfied with their hotels and 88 percent were satisfied with their travel agents, but 10 percent were dissatisfied with the tourist attractions and 8 percent were dissatisfied with public transport.
