Q1 visitor spending rises 10 pct to MOP15.9 bln

In the first quarter of this year visitors to Macau spent MOP15.9 billion (US$1.99 billion) on everything except gambling, 10 percent more than a year earlier, official data show.

The Statistics and Census Service says each visitor spent MOP2,074 on average, 1 percent more than a year earlier.

Overnight visitors spent MOP13.2 billion, 8 percent more, and day-trippers spent MOP2.8 billion, 19 percent more.

Each overnight visitor spent MOP3,691 on average, 3 percent more, and each day-tripper spent MOP673 on average, 6 percent more.

Visitors spent most of their money on shopping and one-quarter of it on accommodation.
