Official conditionally open to smoking in casinos

Secretary of Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng has said the government is open to the suggestion that casinos be allowed to keep their smoking rooms.

Mr Tam was speaking to reporters after a meeting of the Legislative Assembly committee that is dealing with a bill to ban smoking in casinos.

He said the government would take into account public opinion on the matter.

“If the results really show that the public and the gaming companies all agree on having smoking rooms in casinos, and that the technical arrangements can ensure second-hand smoke does not leak out, the Macau government will invite the sector to make suggestions and discuss the standards for smoking room set-ups,” he said.
