The government’s Human Resources Office thinks employment of a suitable number of migrant workers can help the economy develop, acting director Chan Un Tong says.

Mr Chan says in a written reply to an enquiry by Legislative Assembly member Antonio Ng Kuok Cheong about the casino industry workforce that his office expects the supply of labour to remain tight once the casino-resort projects in Cotai are completed from 2015 to 2017.

“If a fitting number of outside workers can be hired, it can help the economy develop in a diversified manner, which in turn can stabilise and expand the employment of residents,” Mr Chan says.
Of the casino industry’s 104,500 or more employees at the end of last year, 27,672 were migrant workers, his office says.
