Non-gaming visitor spending up by 14 pct

The total spending (excluding gaming expenses) of Macau visitors for the whole of 2013 reached MOP59.5 billion, up by 14pct from MOP52.3 billion in 2012. According to information released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), tourists total per-capita spending was MOP2,030, up by 9pct year-on-year, with that of overnight visitors and same-day visitors rising by 8pct and 13pct to total MOP3,475 and MOP662 respectively.
In the fourth quarter of 2013, the total spending of tourists amounted to MOP16.3 billion, up by 12pct year-on-year. The spending of overnight visitors totalled MOP13.4 billion and that of same-day visitors was MOP2.9 billion, up by 7pct and 46pct respectively.
Per-capita, the spending of visitors in the fourth quarter was MOP2,201, up by 9pct year-on-year. Mainland tourists had the highest per-capita spending at MOP2,801, and the spending of those traveling under the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) reached MOP2,909; meanwhile, per-capita spending of visitors from Japan and Singapore was MOP1,800  and  MOP1,795  respectively.  Visitors  from  Australia  had  relatively  high per-capita spending among the long-haul tourists at MOP1,367.
According to DSEC, visitors spent money mainly on shopping (50pct), accommodation (26pct) and food and beverages (18pct) in the fourth quarter of 2013. Shopping items included jewelry and watches (21pct), and local food products (21pct). Mainland visitors spent an average of MOP1,605 while shopping, and shopping spending of IVS visitors reached MOP1,895, up by 11pct and 19pct respectively year-on-year. Meanwhile, long-haul tourists primarily spent their money on accommodation and food and beverages.
In the fourth quarter, the per-capita spending of overnight visitors amounted to MOP3,776, and that of same-day visitors was MOP746, up by 6pct and 40pct respectively year-on-year. Per-capita spending sums of overnight and same-day mainland visitors were MOP4,852 and MOP949 respectively, while those of overnight and same-day IVS visitors reached MOP5,036 and MOP1,462.
