No budget hotel in SJM Cotai: Angela Leong

SJM Holdings Ltd executive director Angela Leong On Kei says the operator’s project in Cotai will not have a budget hotel.

SJM chief executive Ambrose So Shu Fai said on May 10 that the operator and Ms Leong – who has a separate non-gaming project planned for Cotai – would combine their land and other resources in building a Cotai casino resort more than three times the size his company had originally planned.

Ms Leong told reporters on Friday that her theme park, planned for a site near the Macau Dome, will include a budget hotel and a family-themed resort, along with amusement facilities for children, our sister publication Business Daily reports.

Her remarks contradict statements made Mr So, who said in November that SJM would put “more affordable accommodation” in its Cotai resort.

Ms Leong said the theme park could be completed by 2017, about the same time as SJM’s casino resort.

Last week, the government granted SJM Holdings a 25-year lease on 70,468 square metres of land, opposite the site of the theme park, for its Cotai casino resort.
