Local gaming operator Sociedade de Jogos de Macau (SJM) will soon increase their employees wages but there is yet no decision on just how much the increase will be, the companys managing director Ambrose So Shu Fai said yesterday.
We will listen to what the workers have to say. We wish to find a balance between what they are asking for and market demands, said So, quoted by Portuguese-language Radio Macau.
He stressed that there are different proposals for the wage rise, which will be the second in less than a year. Last February SJM announced a five percent salary increase to all its full-time employees, along with a bonus payment.
But cage cashiers are claiming they were not including the annual wage increases and their salaries have grown by only MOP 500 during the last five years.
Last week about 150 workers demonstrated in front of the office of SJM executive director Angela Leong On Kei. A further 30 joined a demonstration last Sunday.
Ambrose So also told journalists that the ailing founder of SJM, Stanley Ho Hung Sun, would throw a huge party next month in Hong Kong to celebrate his 90th anniversary.
However, the executive emphasised that the tycoon is still recovering from brain surgery in August 2009 after a fall at home. Stanley Ho would only visit Macau when his health improved, So added.
