Private teachers get MOP 230 – 500 extra

The allowance regulations for private schools teachers that were announced yesterday will add MOP 230 500 to the professionals allowance. It will be distributed three times year, in accordance with their qualifications and level of training, which are divided into six grades this represents an allowance range of MOP 2,270 4,800.
According to the new mechanism, the monthly allowance will be divided into six grades. Those teaching staff with a bachelors degree or equivalent qualifications together with formal teacher training will receive monthly allowance of MOP 4,800 those do not have the pedagogic training, MOP 3,840. For teachers with higher diploma or equivalent academic qualifications and educational training, the monthly allowance is MOP 4,070 and MOP 3,710 for those at the same academic level who have not received relevant pedagogic training.
As for the teachers who do not have higher academic qualifications but have received formal teacher training, the monthly allowance is MOP 3,290 those who only received formal education training with have the lowest allowance of MOP 2,270 each month. The teachers professional development allowance was given to teaching staff in private schools three times each year in December, April and August. The new arrangement means MOP 690 1500 extra payment each year for the teachers, and has a retroactive effect to April 1 this year.
The Chinese Educators Association of Macau was quoted by TDM as saying that the governments new allowance scheme would help to stabilize the teaching team in local private schools, and better reflect the professional status of senior teachers.
Ho Sio Kam, president of the association urged the Government to speed up the supplementary works for enforcing the framework governing private schools teachers. She said more clarification was needed for the academic qualifications and educational training required of private school teaching staff.
