Lawmakers want to make sure civil servants get the 6.45 percent salary rise on May 1.
Members of the Legislative Assemblys Third Standing Committee met yesterday to discuss the government-initiated bill.
Committee president Cheong Chi Keong was quoted by local media as saying that based on their schedule, the bill could take effect on Labour Day.
The salaries will not be backdated because the government said it was taking into consideration the current salary levels in the private sector, the inflation rate and the governments financial situation.
