The government announced yesterday it will extend the income subsidy until the end of this year.
Introduced back in 2008, the current income subsidy targets low income, full-time workers aged 40 or above with monthly earnings below MOP4,400 (US$550).
The government has decided not to the raise the subsidys value, saying it has meanwhile implemented several other social support measures.
Inflation for last year stood at 5.8 percent.
Through the income subsidy, the government gives workers a cash allowance to add on to their monthly earnings until they reach the MOP4,400 level.
Only permanent residents are eligible.
The government expects to spend MOP34 million this year on the income subsidy.
