New rule for old vehicles to be imposed in 2017

The government will reduce to eight years from 10 the maximum age of motor vehicles exempt from compulsory inspections of their roadworthiness, but not until 2017, Transport Bureau director Lam Hin San has said.

The reduction was proposed by Mr Lam’s predecessor, Wong Wan, to curb the growth in the number of vehicles on the road.

Mr Lam said the reduction would be made only once the government’s new vehicle inspection centre in Cotai opened next year.
