Most lending to SMEs goes to builders in 2013

Lending to small and medium enterprises in construction and public works amounted to MOP11.8 billion (US$1.48 billion) last year, or 29.1 percent of all lending to SMEs, the Monetary Authority of Macau says.

Our sister publication Business Daily quotes the authority as saying wholesalers and retailers had 19.5 percent of lending to SMEs and manufacturers had 8 percent.

SMEs used 59 percent of the money they borrowed in the second half of last year to expand their business, having used 69.8 percent of the money they borrowed in the first half for that purpose.
