Migrant labour force swells beyond 130,000-mark

The migrant labour force grew to a record size last month, exceeding 130,000 workers for the first time.

The city had 130,822 migrant workers at the end of September, 63 percent of them mainlanders.

The number of migrant workers has grown steadily, breaking records each month since July last year.

Hotels and restaurants are the biggest hirers, employing 29 percent of migrant workers. Construction employs about 18 percent.
