May imports decrease 4.3 pct to MOP6.97 bln

The value of Macau’s merchandise imports fell to MOP6.97 billion (about US$871.25 million) last month, 4.3 per cent less than a year earlier, the Statistics and Census Service says.

Notably, imports of motorcars and motorcycles decreased by 42.3 per cent to MOP221 million, the service’s figures show.

The value of merchandise exports fell by 5.9 per cent to MOP874 million. Re-exports decreased by 2.8 per cent to MOP719 million and domestic exports decreased by 18.1 per cent to MOP156 million.

Last month’s trade deficit was therefore MOP6.1 billion.
