Wells Fargo says Macau’s gross gaming revenue could again pass the MOP30-billion (US$3.75 billion) mark.

In a note to clients issued yesterday, senior analyst Cameron McKnight said that, based on early trends through May 5, casino gross gaming revenue growth for May is trending at between 13 and 17 percent year-on-year. This would make it the second best month ever for the city’s gaming industry.

“Despite month-to-date average daily revenue growth of 25.6 percent, we would expect revenues to trail off given the typical post-Golden Week lull,” Mr McKnight wrote.

In May last year, the city’s casinos reported MOP26.1 billion in gross gaming revenue. A 17-percent year-on-year growth rate would mean casino revenue of MOP30.5 billion.

Macau’s gaming industry has only topped MOP30 billion once – it was in March this year, when it raked in MOP31.3 billion.
