SJM Holdings Ltd chief executive Ambrose So Shu Fai says Macau needs a better migrant labour policy to cope with the expansion of the gaming industry.

“As we go on with this construction in Cotai, we hope that there will be a better policy in order to facilitate construction so that we can complete it in time,” he said.

Earlier this week, Las Vegas Sands Corp president and chief operating officer Michael Leven urged the government to rethink its rule that all croupiers must be Macau residents, saying it could lead to a shortage of staff.

Las Vegas Sands is the parent company of Macau gaming operator Sands China Ltd.

Mr So said SJM supported the idea of non-resident croupiers “if there aren’t enough people”.
