Majority back minimum wage of MOP30 an hour

The overwhelming majority of people surveyed by the government want the minimum wage set at MOP30 (US$3.75) or more an hour.

The government’s report on its public consultation on the minimum wage proposal says about 98.8 percent of the 1,007 opinions collected were in favour of a minimum wage of MOP30 or more an hour, while 0.4 percent were in favour of MOP27 or less and 0.2 percent were against any minimum wage.

The public consultation took place between September 30 and November 15, and the report was published today.

The minimum wage would be for cleaning and security staff only.
