Macau residents put less money in the bank in June

Deposits by Macau residents in the city’s banks contracted to MOP477.4 billion (about US$59.68 billion) in June, 0.9 per cent less than the month before, the Monetary Authority of Macau says.

The authority’s figures show deposits by outsiders grew by 7.1 per cent to MOP266 billion and deposits by the public sector grew by 2.5 per cent to MOP121.7 billion.

Loans to the domestic private sector grew by 2.4 per cent to MOP376 billion and loans to outsiders grew by 4.8 per cent to MOP385.7 billion.

The value of loans by banks in June was the equivalent of 88.1 per cent of the value of deposits they held, 1.4 percentage points more than the month before.
