Macau Pass SA intends to begin issuing this year a new type of stored-value card that has China UnionPay’s QuickPass function and a better way of verifying the identity of the holder, our sister publication Business Daily reports.
The newspaper quotes Macau Pass executive deputy general manager David Lao as saying the new cards can be used to pay in either renminbi or patacas, so they will work on both sides of the border.
The new cards can simultaneously store value of MOP1,000 (US$125) and RMB1,000 (US$161).
Mr Lao says they are part of his company’s plan to increase the use of Macau Pass cards in the mainland and Hong Kong.
