Macau H1 hotel guests increase 1 pct to 5.3 mln

Over 5.3 million people stayed in Macau hotels in the first half of this year, 1 percent more than a year earlier, official figures show.

The Statistics and Census Service says the city’s hotels and guesthouses had 863,000 guests last month, 4 percent fewer than a year earlier.

The average hotel occupancy rate was 86 percent last month, six percentage points more than a year earlier.

Macau had 99 hotels and guesthouses halfway through the year and they contained over 28,000 rooms, 1 percent fewer than 12 months before.

Some 18,000 of the rooms were in five-star hotels.
