Macau chief executive optimistic about economy

Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai has described himself as “cautiously optimistic” about Macau’s economy, in spite of the slump in gaming.

Mr Chui, speaking in Beijing, said the recent declines in casino gross gaming revenue were to be expected.

He said the contents of his annual Policy Address would take into account the slump, and be based on assumptions made in the light of last month’s casino gross gaming revenue.

He indicated that the decline in gaming revenue will not reduce the government’s budget for current spending.
