Macau advised to lure more middle class tourists

Merrill Lynch (Asia Pacific) Ltd managing director Billy Ng thinks Macau needs to attract more tourists, particularly middle class tourists, to counteract the effects of the slump in gaming.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Global Tourism Economy Forum in Macau, Mr Ng said of gaming companies:

“They need to broaden their appeal. They need to offer much greater variety in terms of services.”

But he sounded a note of caution, asking rhetorically:
“I believe the Chinese government don’t mind sending more people here, but are the Macau Government and Macau society ready to receive more?”
