The Legislative Assembly’s third standing committee has become entangled in difficulties presented by the minimum wage bill, committee chairman Cheang Chi Keong says.

Mr Cheang says the bill contains a discrepancy between the daily and monthly minimum pay rates it proposes for all cleaning and security staff, that the bill fails to mesh with the law as it stands, and that if the principles of the bill were eventually applied to all occupations, they would be hard to apply equitably.

The bill proposes to set the minimum wage for cleaning and security staff at MOP30 (US$ 3.80) per hour.
