January inflation 6.4 pct as rent, food cost more

The annual rate of consumer price inflation was 6.4 percent last month, driven by increases in the cost of renting a home, food and dining out.

The monthly rate of inflation was 0.8 percent, the Statistics and Census Service says.

The Lunar New Year period pushed up prices, with the cost of miscellaneous goods and services, recreation and culture rising by 2.69 percent.

In the 12 months to January 31, the average annual rate of inflation was 5.61 percent.
