The impact of the Lunar New Year pushed up Macau’s Composite Consumer Price Index, the city’s main gauge for inflation, in February.

Data from the Statistics and Census Service shows that the inflation rate increased to 6.16 percent year-on-year last month, attributable to dearer prices of fresh food and produce, and higher charges for eating out and outbound package tours.

Month-to-month the inflation rate increased by 1.04 percent in February, the highest monthly increase since February 2010.

For the 12 months ended February, the average inflation rate increased by 5.99 percent from the preceding period.
