The National Day holiday in mainland China has created a huge influx of visitors to Macau despite the new mainland tourism law. Two days ago, more than 334,800 people crossed the major ports to enter and exit Macau, 226,000 of them being visitors. A visitor complained about the lengthy queuing time at the border gate: “This is the first time I have come to Macau. There are too many people at the border. I have stayed in line for an hour and a half.” Compared to the significant amount of visitors at the border gate, the situation is calmer at the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal. Waves of travellers started to arrive in Macau on September 30 with more than 150,000 people entering Macau that day, while as many as 159,000 people also left the city.
