Hengqin officials working on acceptance of pataca

The authorities over the border on Hengqin Island are endeavouring to come up this year with arrangements for the use of the pataca on the island, TDM reports.

The public broadcaster’s Chinese radio service quotes Hengqin New Area Administrative Committee director Niu Jing as saying the plan is to allow the currency to be used for shopping, dining and paying for entertainment.

Mr Niu said the People’s Bank of China would have to approve the arrangements for the use of the pataca on the island.
