The government intends to change the law so it can punish buyers of subsidised housing that fail to occupy their homes, according to Legislative Assembly member Chan Meng Kam.

Mr Chan told reporters after a meeting of the assembly committee he chairs, which was attended by Secretary of Transport and Public Works Raimundo Rosario, that the problem of unoccupied subsidised flats was greatest in Seac Pai Van.

The Housing Bureau has said that by February 1,457 of the 7,087 households allotted public housing sold at subsidised prices had failed to move in.
