Govt Q1 surplus MOP35.1 bln as gaming tax piles up

The government’s budget surplus was MOP35.1 billion (US$4.4 billion) in the first quarter of this year, 24.6 percent more than a year earlier, the Financial Services Bureau says.

First-quarter revenue from direct taxes on gaming amounted to MOP35.8 billion, 21.5 percent more than a year earlier.

The first-quarter surplus is equivalent to 54.7 percent of the surplus budgeted for the whole year.
