Govt keeping open mind on casino licence renewals

The government will only begin reviewing the casino concession contracts in 2015 or 2016, Secretary for Economy and Finance Francis Tam Pak Yuen has said.

Mr Tam was speaking in response to a report in the Hong Kong Economic Journal which quoted an unidentified source as saying the government was considering shortening the term of casino concessions.

The present 20-year concessions are due for renewal in 2020 and 2022.

Mr Tam said the government was keeping an open mind on the matter.

He said no casino operator had formally stated its opinion on licence renewal.
