Govt awards 4G licences to established telcos

The Bureau of Telecommunications Regulation says it has granted fourth-generation wireless telecommunications licences to four bidders which are already established in the Macau market.

A written statement issued by the bureau says the successful bidders are Companhia de Telecomunicações de Macau SARL, China Telecom (Macau) Co Ltd, Hutchison Telephone (Macau) Co Ltd and SmarTone – Comunicações Móveis SA.

Bids by prospective newcomers to Macau’s telecommunications market, China Mobile Hong Kong Co Ltd and U Hong, failed.
