Government budget surplus MOP46.2 bln in Q1

The government had a fiscal surplus of MOP46.2 billion (US$5.8 million) in the first quarter of this year, 16.6 percent more than a year earlier.

Finance Services Bureau data show the first-quarter surplus is the equivalent of 72.6 percent of the surplus the government forecasts for the whole year.

Direct taxes on gaming amounted to MOP48.4 billion in the first quarter, 19.2 percent more than a year earlier.

The budget envisages capital spending of MOP194.4 million, but the government spent only 1.3 percent in the first quarter, or 54.1 percent less than it spent a year earlier.
