Gaming to remain dominant, says retiring official

An outgoing member of the Monetary Authority of Macau, José Félix Pontes, thinks it will take a long time for Macau’s economy to become more diverse, Business Daily reports.

“Macau’s economic-financial dependency upon casinos will continue for many, many decades,” The newspaper quotes Mr Pontes, who is retiring, as saying in an interview.

Acknowledging the government’s aim to make the economy more diverse, he said: “This objective is possible to achieve, but only in the medium and long term.”
