Gaming revenue sparks off higher housing costs

Gross gaming revenue has a strong correlation with the price of housing in Macau, says the Public Governance Research Centre.

Our sister publication Business Daily reports that a study by the centre found housing prices rise or fall one or two quarters after a corresponding change in gross gaming revenue.

The researchers also looked at inflation, housing rents and fluctuations in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange’s Hang Seng Index. But gaming revenue had the strongest correlation with housing prices.

The researchers said higher incomes and economic stability had encouraged investment in property
