The composite Consumer Price Index (CPI) for last month rose by 6.16 pct year-on-year, according to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). The increase is attributed to the, “Dear prices of fresh food and produce, higher charges for eating out and outbound package tours,” and also to “the impact of the Lunar New Year”, according to DSEC. In comparison with February 2012, notable increase was observed in the price index of “Recreation & Culture” (+11.72 pct); “Housing & Fuels” (+8.88 pct); and “Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages” (+7.42 pct). On the contrary, the price index of “Education and Communication” decreased by 3.14 pct and 1.34 pct respectively.
